Waiting For A Miracle

Oil on Canvas, 1997

One of my first 'involved' paintings, I tried to illustrate an idea rather than just an image. While still experimenting with various techniques, I wanted something that could have multiple meanings. Thus began my journey of inner exploration with paint. It was also my first attempt at painting clouds and fog, which didn't turn out as expected.

Becky (Rebecca) snagged this one from me.
Hellbound

Oil on Canvas, 1997

A second attempt at inner exploration, I found it rather difficult to stray from a figurative style. Having spent the majority of my youth drawing superheroes and such, it was usually the first subject matter to mind. This was also my first attempt at painting fire, which was an interesting test.

Phillip grabbed this one while I wasn't looking. Just kidding.
Allyson Nicole

Oil on Canvas, 1998

This was a photorealism assignment in which I entered with great enthusiasm, being a freak about detail. I got my hands on a pic of my uncle's old shrimp boat, named after my cousin, and went to town! Midway through I realized that photo realistic painting was damned difficult! But I stuck it out and managed to pull off an interesting effect. Up close, it doesn't look like much, but from a distance is very nice. I decided to give the painting to my uncle as a gift. He loves it!
Farmer

Oil on Canvas, 1998

Another school assignment, I flipped through some pages of National Geographic and stumbled upon this pic. I thought the skewed angles were interesting and thought I might give it a shot. Also, I wanted to try my hands at painting a dirty, rustic image. It came out quite colorful and I like how Farmer John sinks into the deep shadows of his home.

Mama's got this one.
Emergence

Oil on Canvas, 2001

My first painting in the 'Ham, this was done laid across my coffee table and solely without an easel. I wanted to illustrate some of the inner turmoil and confusion going through my mind at the time, all while trying to grab a foothold within a new town. I explored a few new techniques and really enjoyed the whole procedure.

This was also a piece in my very first art show and was sold (and allowed to be taken down without my knowledge!) within a few days! Along with selling another painting and a coupl'a digi-prints, I made rent the following month! Boo-ya!
Spiderweb

Oil on Canvas, 2002

The resurgence of Faust! This is my most emotional piece ever! Clawing my way out of a really bad place in life, I released everything that had been bottled up for years. Done with naught but a pallet knife, and a bit of brushing, I really studied the instrument and discovered a few very cool techniques. The dark imagery came naturally.
Birth

Oil on Canvas, 2002

A follow up to Spiderweb, I revisited the pallet knife and explored a more ancient idea with runic characters and tribal symbolism. I also tried to generate a stone texture, which I hadn't really explored before. This one holds many emotions within it as well.
A Hundred Thousand Welcomes

Oil on Canvas, 2009

After a 7-year hiatus, I decided it was time to try my hands at another painting. This was done as a birthday gift for Nat and was only 2 weeks overdue! But then again, when have I ever been on time with anything? All in all, I have to say it was a lot of fun to get back into painting; regardless of all the smudges!
