The Prelude
I’ve mentioned this in the past and have finally made some headway in refinishing my kitchen table. As a brief recap: I received the table second-hand back in ‘02-ish from friends who were moving away. There was a good bit of wear n’ tear, but all in all a sturdy table. And after my coffee table project proved a success in ‘00, I wanted to test my skills with wood once again. I also chose to recycle some of my Celtic knotwork designs to embellish the otherwise ‘blank canvas’. Continue »

celtic tree
That was the sudden sharp turn in my thinking when I sat down to script out a game plan for my next series of drawings. It also happened to be closing in on Nat’s b’day, which was the main decision to pick up the ol’ paintbrushes, look ‘em over, toss ‘em in the trash and go buy new ones. The celtic Tree of Life is a design that I’d been wanting to play with for a few years now, but never did actually come up with any solid ideas. This design, however, came from a t-shirt of mine that’s fast becoming worn out.

This painting ended up taking just over 4 weeks to complete; twice what I’d anticipated. That’s the trouble with using oil paints… they can and most likely will take forever to dry when you’re counting down the days. And while the last 2 weeks felt more like a chore and actual work, I’m really happy to have it finished and looking quite nice. Now, I’m all jazzed up and thinking about the next project. I have several unfinished pieces in the works, but I’ve been thinking about finishing my kitchen table next. It just looks so naked!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this new work with everyone. Stay tuned for more updates on my table! There will be more pics!

more as it comes…

SPLENDID! Following up on the adventure to find Jason’s two sons, we’re now taken deeper into Ghostworld, or the phantom realm as i like to think of it. here, both reality and time are warped in a fashion that one would have to take special care not to lose one’s sanity. the whole idea of time-shifting is a tough one, but Holdstock gives a nice attempt. Set 700 years from their natural existence, each brother is accompanied by the ‘ghost’ of their sibling; an act done by their mother (Medea) who is an eternal walker like Merlin. the reasons for this action root in betrayal by Jason. But this isn’t all that is going on in the ancient world, oh no. apparently, the denizens of ghostworld have a particular grudge against the living and decide to act upon it by means of warfare. keeping in mind, ghostworld is hosted by the ancestors of the living, this causes much confusion amongst the ‘present’ dwellers. only by traveling the twists and turns of the rivers in the ancient ship, argo, do our companions make the journey to find the logic behind the great episode of the iron grail. WONDERFUL!! The beginning of a saga! We’re taken back to a time of the ancient world where Greek, Celtic and German clans roamed the world for pillage and adventure. Our central figure in the story is none other than the ‘wizard’ Merlin, who we find is foreseen to become the ultimate aide to Arthur, King of the Britons. Yet the story takes place well before this age. Here, we have Merlin in his ‘youth’ (merely a few thousand years old), forever young as long as he doesn’t abuse his mystical powers of charm. Age comes with power, in other words. Anyway, while on his ‘destined path’ around the world, Merlin stumbles upon a man who should not be here in this time, but rather 700 years prior; the son of Jason, Merlin’s old friend now ‘dead’. In a dream vision, Merlin learns that both he and his friend were deceived as to the death of the son (and his brother) and journeys to the frozen tundra to resurrect Jason in an effort to reconcile the union and bring peace of mind to Jason, whose ghost still screams at the bottom of a frozen lake. Jason’s faithful spirit ship, Argo, is also resurrected, in which the friends recruit a small band of travelers to search for the missing son. Continue »
