I’ve recently begun experimenting with recording both ambient and blues rock music as ideas for my next album. A coupl’a weekends ago I had a spontaneous session where I attempted to bridge the two genres and was completely floored by the outcome. As a basic, unrefined track it captures, what I feel, a powerful 15 minutes of chaos embellished with a steady heart-pulse type of beat. It requires, nay DEMANDS, patience while, at the same time, exploding into a world of noise when you least expect it. It’s a fun track to be working on and I think I’ll share it with you as a single as soon as I finish some minor tweaking.
Anyway, this has led me into another migration toward ambient music and I recently stumbled upon a site hosted by one of my all-time favorite artists, Underworld. They’re broadcasting a mix of unreleased tracks intertwined with samples from various sources every 3-4 months for a solid 2 hours of ambient/techno bliss. I’m totally digging it right now! It is perfect for playing in the background while working, and if you’re like me, a great source of inspiration for ideas in your own recordings. Check it out!
Going back to that ‘next album’ thing I mentioned, well, it’s in it’s infancy right now. Not more than a short list of ideas so far. But I’ve been talking with Adam about it and I think it will be more Blues-based than anything. He’ll want to have some traditional Blues in there while I’ll add my own styling to the mix. The Ambient vein will probably become a side project solely of my own music. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of it all. I’ll keep you posted!
More as it comes…
