hiatus…

Hey all. Sorry for the long delay, but I’ve been preoccupied with recording my album. It seems I’ve been putting just as many hours into it as I do work, so I guess it’s like having 2 jobs; which is ok as long as progress is being made, right? And oh how progress is being made! I’ve been learning a thing or two with the software and also with my writing, so I’m very excited with the modified direction everything is going. Certain songs have been revisited numerous times and some have been completely restructured, all for the sake of creating a solid cohesive album. Some songs are even taking on a shape that I’d never imagined when I wrote them about 10 years ago.But I think one thing I have to take into consideration is the subject matter. As I’ve said, many of these songs are quite dated; back to a time of youthful angst and bitter interpretations of goings-on. Which is fine, but that would make for a very heavy-on-the-emotions album. So I’m trying to script out a balanced selection of songs that would give a more pleasant flow between the extremes. Anyway, some of you have already heard some early demos, but I really want the finished products to be a complete surprise, so I don’t think I’ll be sharing anymore until it’s all done. Booooo? I know, I know, but my reasoning is that I don’t want to cheapen the impact by having half of the album already heard. It would just become old news then. My goal is for each song to bleed off each other. It may work and it may not. We’ll just have to wait and see.

In other news, the job’s going great! Even through all the Monday-Mondays I just remind myself that it’s a hell of a lot better than retail management. At any rate, I feel like my sense of design is escalating and I’m gathering ideas all the while. Cover design is still a great source of inspiration although the process can be a bit of a headache. But the outcome is always worth it.

As for this blog… well, I think I’ve hit bottom with it. I just don’t have the variety-show lifestyle that would prompt an informative and entertaining blog, and I’ve lost almost all enthusiasm of trying to drum up stuff to post about. It was fun starting out, learning the code and all, but the fact of the matter is I have nothing to say on a daily/weekly basis, so it’s hard to see a point to all of this. And I absolutely refuse to turn this blog into a damn billboard for other people promoting other stuff. That’s just not my nature. And I could give a rat’s ass about ratings. I’ll keep it going, though… only the posts will be few and far between. Plus, I still have to finish designing the damn thing after all. My gallery feels far from completion and needs a better styling, so that will probably be the focus of my efforts for a while (when I take a break from the album, that is). And I suppose that’s really all I ever wanted this blog to be… a personal gallery. I still strive to one day open it up for sales, which would hopefully spur me into producing more pieces, but I think I’ll need to complete a few other tasks before that happens. And it will happen, dammit! You just wait.

Anyway, I hope everything is honky-dory for you guys! Things are good here. I mean, I’ve lost 12 lbs for chrissake!

more as it comes…

Whatcha Think?

  1. audrey :

I hope you keep posting! I am excited about hearing the completed album and I am glad that you have persevered and have been working on it. 12 lbs. is pretty awesome, too! I understand about not wanting to blog to be a billboard for someone-why would you want to? I look forward to your posts, though. :)

  2. big squirm :

I echo what Audrey said. Besides, it’s the only time we here in New Orleans get to hear how you’re doing.
