WONDERFUL!! The beginning of a saga! We’re taken back to a time of the ancient world where Greek, Celtic and German clans roamed the world for pillage and adventure. Our central figure in the story is none other than the ‘wizard’ Merlin, who we find is foreseen to become the ultimate aide to Arthur, King of the Britons. Yet the story takes place well before this age. Here, we have Merlin in his ‘youth’ (merely a few thousand years old), forever young as long as he doesn’t abuse his mystical powers of charm. Age comes with power, in other words. Anyway, while on his ‘destined path’ around the world, Merlin stumbles upon a man who should not be here in this time, but rather 700 years prior; the son of Jason, Merlin’s old friend now ‘dead’. In a dream vision, Merlin learns that both he and his friend were deceived as to the death of the son (and his brother) and journeys to the frozen tundra to resurrect Jason in an effort to reconcile the union and bring peace of mind to Jason, whose ghost still screams at the bottom of a frozen lake. Jason’s faithful spirit ship, Argo, is also resurrected, in which the friends recruit a small band of travelers to search for the missing son.

A beautiful take on the life and times of Merlin before the age of Arthur with a very different look upon the personality of the ‘wizard’. Definitely recommended!
