SUCKED!! You could pretty much skip this book altogether and finish the series well off. That’s part of the reason it took me so damn long to finish it. The first 100 pages just build up to another 100 pages of weak reading. Nothing more than boring dialog between the astronauts and mild reconnaissance that provide nothing to the general plot of the entire run. I’ll admit some satisfaction upon completing the book, if not merely for completing the book. The only thing I was able to pull away from this dissapointment was further development for a particular character (Heywood Floyd) from the previous installment (2010: Odyssey Two.) Nice character and all, but not enough to support this complete waste of time. It saddens me to write that, because I admire this series so much, but this third installment just falls way too short and actually pissed me off! So there ya go. Read it or don’t. Doesn’t matter.
