~ October 7th, 2006 ~

so anyway, i’m back from seminar. despite the many warnings, i found it was rather enjoyable. kinda like a field trip, which i haven’t had many since grade school. anyway, i learned a few things on what it takes to be a successful GM and intend to implement that knowledge to its fullest. only time will tell. also, i racked up on some goodies with which i intend to share come xmas. i think the best of the bunch was the very first book i saw; a trade paper of Bram Stoker’s Dracula illustrated by one of my favorite artists, Jae Lee. He’s so dark and gothic! and not to mention, has been elected to take on the pencil work for Stephen King’s Dark Tower graphic series. sweet!
well, i guess everyone’s had a chance to look at the new graphics i put in the header. that is a revamped, digitized rendition of the background to an old painting i sold back in the day at my very first art show with Naked Art. At the time, I was struggling and only concerned with making sales and never once thought about snapping a pic of it. well, it sold within days and the shop let ‘em take it off the wall before the show ended. the nerve! so anyway, i have no reference to that final piece other than the original sketch and my degraded memory. sooooo, i thought about creating a new line of art based on that original sketch which had always held powerful emotions with me. and that’s been the new and exciting direction that i mentioned earlier. well, when i say direction i mean the style. i’d never tried the “graffiti” style before, and with working on revamping the sketch, it kinda struck a key with me. i intend to investigate until it becomes boring. i saw an APT special recently on Andy Warhol, whom i somewhat despise, but learned that he would concentrate solely on a particular style until he felt he had gone to it’s limits. i like that, and think i should do the same. this means that i would have to go back and revisit alot of crap i’ve done in the past. even back to high school. anyway, it all builds up to new ideas, with which i thought i had run out. but there seems to be a resurgence in my brain and some new sources of media (this blog), so i’ll keep at it. stay tuned.

more as it comes

    Renewed artistic energy!
    Now we’re talking!
Time to take over the world!
I just want to be one of the guys APT interviews when they do their story on the “McGrew Movement” of the early 21st century…
