this time ’round i delved deep into my past to bring you something that may surprise you. Dubnobasswithmyheadman by Underworld is truly one of my favorite house/techno albums of all time. “what!” you say? “faust likes house music?” and then i say, “yep.” and then you say, “since when?” and then i say, “oh, since before you were born.” actually, there’s only a handful of names i like that came out of the genre, but give it a thick beat and a lot of hi-hats and i’m in. anyway, i picked up on this album in my early college years, around the time that the genre was picking up speed and finally getting away from the cheesy 80’s sound. what i really appreciate from this album is the fact that you can hear the echoes of rock, rather than booty-grind-hip-hop like nowadays. anyway, this album was fairly big in its day and even had several tracks (like Dirty Epic and my 2 favorite drones, Spoonman and Cowgirl) make it to the clubs on a regular basis…. so i hear… i mean i wasn’t out there clubbin’… not too often… ok, there was a coupla’ years… whatever. besides all of that, this album has been one of those great for the background while entertaining, working at the desk, or simply sleeping. just loop it and you’re good to go. i guess the thing i like most about this style of music is the gradual layering of elements to generate a steady rhythm. while there are artists better at doing that, these guys certainly have a knack for flowing an album. regardless of the fact that it’s 13 years old now, and i’m sure your tastes have long since changed, i commit that it’s an album worthy of the archives. but ya know…
less babble. more music. give it a listen.

i’d heard they had a new one out, but haven’t heard any tracks yet. i’ve actually lost a li’l favor with them and their whole deconstruct phase. and thome’s solo album blows. not the radiohead i grew up on.
