~ April 13th, 2007 ~

keepin’ with the theme of dead heroes, monday marks the 6th anniversary of the passing of the one & only Joey Ramone, frontman of the bubble-punk pioneers, Ramones. my first exposure was way back in the day with pet cemetery, written for Stephen King’s film of the same name. i tuned in and quickly discovered all their anthems like beat on the brat, blitzkrieg bop and i wanna be sedated and was simply hooked. i’ll admit that i didn’t follow their career as closely as i do my other favorites, but i think there’s something to be said for being surprised when you stumble upon new material from a favorite band. and that’s how it was with the ramones. their albums aren’t thematic like what you’d find with pink floyd or tool, but rather just big jumbles of (almost) random party songs… pick out which ones you like and go! later on in their career they began doing alot of great covers such as, creedence clearwater revival’s have you ever seen the rain, the spiderman theme and tom wait’s i don’t wanna grow up (which is friggin’ awesome!) sadly, Joey came down with a bad case of lymphatic cancer and left us. Dee Dee also left us in 06/02 by way of overdose and the fabulous Johnny departed in 09/04 from prostate cancer. just plain terrible. but they were thoughtful enough to leave us with a host of wonderful, forever-young music.

less babble. more music. give it a listen.

Whatcha Think?

Damn man, I didn’t know they had all passed. I knew that Joey had gone on but I wasn’t aware that the rest of the group and gone on to that stage in the sky. I should thank you. You’re the one who actually got me started with the Ramones. Since then I’ve picked up more of their stuff. You’re right a bunch of their stuff is great party music. They will all be missed.
